Lawyer Submission

Throughout the last couple of weeks I have received emails regarding the best places to submit your website. Before I give you a few names of sites I have used, we first need to understand why linking and submissions are important. When you create a website the first thing to consider is creating a vast amount of exposure in public directories, legal directories and search engines. Linking your website from certain directories will be advantageous for you.

When you link your website from different directory’s you do 2 things:

You get the incoming link to your website which will help boost your rankings

You get a link within the directory in the event someone is using the directory to locate an attorney

Before you begin linking in every imaginable directory on the internet consider the following:

  • Do not link into spamming sites
  • Link your website in the right area – lawyer section

Provide a good anchor tag – When linking use a keyword term, ie New York criminal lawyers. This term should link directly to your site.

Linking from different websites and blogs that are legal specific. This means if you can get into a good link exchange program with other attorneys around the country it will help you in the SERP’s.

Stay away from link farms. A link farm or link cloud is a way to spam the search engines. Search engines are now penalizing those links that are part of link farms. It will only hurt your rankings.

I have provided a list below of some of the better places to have your website listed. I have included both free listings and paid listings.

There are other ways of finding the right directory or places to link your website. If you are looking for other places do a search (google) for a specific keyword that relates to a term you are trying to capture. When you look at the result you may see one or two of your competitors on the first page. Take the first part of the url (whatever.com) and put that site into the search engine box and submit. Exclude http://www. just put in the name of the site followed by the .com.

Once you have done so you will be provided a full lists of sites linking into the website. Those are probably some of the sites you need a link from.

In closing if you decide to start linking you will get better exposure on the internet. Most people that sell search engine optimization believe that linking is the most important part in getting top exposure on the search engines. I think its very important and I suggest you do so immediately.

As always your comments are much appreciated. Both the good and the bad!

  1. Isn’t link exchange considered link farming? What is the difference?

  2. I’m assuming you have a larger list. Can you provide us with that list? You can also use the email above and email me over the list. Thank you for your consideration!

  3. Link exchange is the submission of links between two different attorneys. One attorney will post the link of the other attorney somewhere on their website and vice versa. This will help your search engine rankings. A link farm is having 100’s of irrelevant links listed on one page for better search engine rankings. Google and the rest of the search engines will penalize your site if you are part of a link farm.

  4. Thanks for the information. Great stuff as usual.

  5. The search engines are very much link driven. When you are building a website you must consider not only linking from outside sources such as directory’s and blogs, you must also consider the link exchange within your website.

You can also evaluate how good the directory is by looking up their google page rank. If they have a high page rank the directory is worth considering, even a paid directory.

The other thing to consider would be article submissions. You can get great link exchange when submitting articles via ezine and so forth. I would also consider submitting articles to this website as well. Because this site is legal related google will probably weigh more on articles coming from this site than other article submission sites.

  6. Our firm submits articles to both legalcatch.wordpress and to EZINE. Many times we will submit the same articles to both sites. When reviewing our traffic reports from our website, I have noticed that we receive much more traffic from articles coming from this site. Why?

  7. “When reviewing our traffic reports from our website, I have noticed that we receive much more traffic from articles coming from this site. Why?”

-3 reasons: 1st. When submitting your article to this site, your articles land on the first page. The first page of this site has a google page rank of 4. 2nd.They also have a category in which they post each article. These categories also have a high page rank. 3rd. Because it is a legal related site, google will pull from this site, even before other article sites.

I write content for several attorneys and I submit my articles to legalcatch.wordpress even before EZINE.

Why? Because the articles continuously show up in the search rankings.

  8. How do I submit articles here?

  9. SUBMIT AN ARTICLE

This is the link for submitting legal articles on this site.

  10. Do you have a more extensive list for lawyer submissions? Does anyone have a more extensive list?

  11. Pluto, are you looking for paid or unpaid listing sites?

  12. Make sure you get listed in yahoo. The free listing will sometimes extend outside of your general area. I would just google Lawyer Submission and you should be able to find other sources.

  13. Other places:
Local bar and state bar association
Submit articles to third party services like this one
    Google Base

  14. When are you going to post your next lawyer marketing article?

  15. Brian, I have noticed that these articles are weeks apart. I would expect to see another one somewhat soon. I would like to see more on the SEO techniques in the next several posts! I have been dealing with our website for close to a year and I think I may be in the so called “google sandbox.” I would like this to be addressed as well in the next couple of articles.

  16. I have submitted my website to all the recommended links above. I have noticed that everyone but the DMOZ group has listed my website. I have also noticed that my traffic increased but the increase didn’t come from the recommended links. Would be correct to assume that because I submitted my links to the above listings I am getting more traffic to my site from google? Does this have to do with SERP’s, whatever they mean?

  17. The reason you may be experience more traffic to your website is because you linked your site from these directories. If you read the article closely you will understand that linking isn’t necessarily used to generate traffic from the listed directory but more for the SERP also known as search engine result page (the ability to get to the top of the major search engines). You also may have gone up in page rank because of the listings.

  18. Thanks for the directory list and article. I’ve been around a long time but I admit that SEO is something I know very little about. I’m going to publish your list and a link to this page on my blog. More, please!

  19. Are you going to post more articles relating to search engine marketing for lawyers? If you do can you please expand more on keyword density and incoming links to our websites. I am still unclear on how to find out about incoming links to lawyer websites within my practice area and location.

Example: if I’m a lawyer that is practicing personal injury in New York do I find out which incoming links are going to a site that is showing up on the first page of google?

It was a little unclear in this article.

I would also like to understand keyword density a little more. I understand what keyword density is but my questions refers more to other pages on my website. For instance, do I want to have all the pages geared towards “personal injury” or “car accidents” and “personal injury.” Let me know if I’m clear. Thanks a million!

  20. Did we get another list anywhere? I thought we were getting another group of places to list our websites??

  21. I’ve submitted our site three months ago to DMOZ and its still not listed. Any idea?

  22. Ben, It can take up to a year before they list you on DMOZ. As long as you submitted and don’t keep on submitting the site, you should probably get listed. However, not everyone that submits their website to DMOZ gets listed.

  23. I have a legal blog/website on disability. I tried submitting it to targetlaw and its still not listed in their search engine. Is anyone else having the same problem?

  24. Eric- If your site is not a lawyer website, they won’t list you in the search engine. I’m assuming that you are a legal expert and not a lawyer?

  25. Thanks for the quick response. Your assumption is correct. Why don’t they just say that?

  26. This article and the rest of these feeds are really good. Who is the person responsible for writing this information?

    I don’t see a link??

  27. He is a consultant but apparently not for hire. If you email Rich I think he will pass his information over to you.

  28. When are you going to post more information regarding lawyer marketing?

  29. There are article directories and article directories. Article extreme is one of the best for the following reasons.
1, All submissions are checked for relevancy. Cut ‘n pasted gibberish will not be admitted.
2, As part of the weeding process, articles not submitted to the correct sub-categories will be declined for re-submission. This is because…
3, This article site is as niche concentrated as possible. After all, who wants to find articles about tropical fish fungus cures in a section of articles about debt consolidation?
4, This tight acceptance control has made this one of the fastest growing article directories around. We now can boast over 1,300 members since we launched in October last year.
5, Our growth is about as organically viral as you can get. A bit of word of mouth, a bit of a Digg now and then, and absolutely no paid advertising. Already our Alexa ranking is under the 300,000 mark, and the associated blog has a totally unexpected Google page rank. It’s low, but it’s quick even for Google!
So, pop over and join the family at http://articleextreme.com

  30. regarding the last comment – This one is for Rich or Jason; this site articleextreme is a site very much like an e-zine directory correct? I have posted my articles over at e-zine and other article submission directories and even though I receive hits from them, I’m assuming if we submit to articleextreme.com we would probably get hits from them as well. However the amount of hits I receive from legalcatch.wordpress out does all other directories almost 10-1. I remember someone posting something about this and I can’t seem to find it. Can you explain to us again or if you could get Jason to explain this it would be great. Perhaps I may try articleexteme out when I submit my next article. I’ll let you guys know….

  31. T.B. Jason has left the building as I’ve not heard from him in some time. I also seem to remember something about this. From the beginning this blog was set up to capture legal information for research purposes and because we were very interested in specific law topics however its expanded over the last year to be a huge site. I’m one of those cynical people that are interested in law!!! Perhaps one day I will become a politician. In any event from what I remember is that the search engines seem to put more weight on sites that are specific in one area aka law information. The directories such as ezine and other article directories have different areas so the search engines weight less on their pages. I really don’t know how true this is and if it really matters. The fact is that I really have no idea about what search optimization really is and to be quite honest I’m not really concerned about it. I have gotten many emails saying that this site is great for the search engines and many of the people that produce legal information get visits to their sites from our links so I guess its working. I also posted that we have a lot of people that hit this site but I’m guessing sites like articleextreme probably get more hits to their site. I guess if they have legal topics it wouldn’t hurt to submit to them as well. i just don’t know enough about it.

  32. Has anyone had any luck increasing their PR by issuing electronic press releases? If so, what service do you use? I signed up for emailwire.com, but I can’t get it to submit any press releases under my program.

  33. Josh, Press releases are only good for incoming links. While incoming links are good for a website I’m not a huge fan of press release services. If you are going to submit to press release services try to submit to sites that are legal oriented such as this site. I believe findlaw.com and askinglaw.com will also allow you to submit articles. If your content is on a legal related site it oftentimes will give your article more credibility and look less like spam to the search engines.

  34. It’s in fact very complicated in this active life to listen news on TV, so I only use the web for that reason, and take the latest news.

  35. Your style is unique compared to other folks I have read stuff from.
Thank you for posting when you’ve got the opportunity, Guess I will just book mark this site.

  36. Hi there! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with SEO?
I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good results.
If you know of any please share. Thank you!

  37. Really dont want too pass up any future blogposts.

  38. Good day! I could have sworn I’ve been to this website before but after
browsing through some of the post I realized it’s new to
me. Nonetheless, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be book-marking and
    checking back frequently!

  39. Your blog is actually awesome. Can I connect with you on Twitter?

  40. Exactly where did you go to learn to write as well as you do?
I want to create my very own blog and start earning money from it.

  41. Hi there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using?

I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a hard time choosing
    between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Sorry for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

  42. I couldn’t refrain from commenting. Very well written!

  43. Hi there to all, since I am really eager of reading this weblog’s post to be updated daily.
    It carries pleasant data.

  44. Great post! And that list of websites is amazing. These industry specific websites surely help in increasing traffic to the site and will surely increase the rankings of law websites.

  45. Great post. I’m dealing with some of these issues as well..
