A federal crime is a criminal offense that is made or deemed illegal by United States Federal law. These types of crimes are also called white collared crimes. In a federal case it’s the U.S. Attorney that prosecutes the defendant. All federal cases are typically investigated by a federal agency like the FBI, DEA or other federal agencies.
